At Sankofa Care, we know that it takes more than just rigorous supervisory visits, regular training and dedicated foster carers to sustain placements. We have set up a number of frameworks to ensure that carers feel supported and empowered to manage and look after the children in their care. Aside from stringent matching procedures, the following practices are standard at Sankofa Care:

  • All of our new carers begin by support more experienced carer, much in the same way that back up carers do; escort support, a few hours of child minding whilst the foster carer attends a parents evening. In this way, new carers begin to learn and understand the expectations for different types of placements.
  • All our new carers are paired up with more experienced carers with similar terms of approval in an informal mentoring scheme. This provides guidance and advice from more experienced carers in addition to the formal support provided by the agency.
  • All foster carers newly approved and more experienced are provided with in-home support from the agency’s support workers.
  • Sankofa Care has provision to provide Contact Facilities located in Mitcham to include supervised contact. We have experienced supervisors who are available to facilitate contact sessions in office hours, evening and weekends. All of our staff have enhanced CRB checks and are fully trained.
